The abbey of the Mont-Saint-Michel is the place of interest Normand more visited. This « wonder of the world » was built between XIe and XVIe centuries.
This high international place of pélerinage owes its origin to the bishop of Avranches Saint-Aubert which, in VIIIe century would have seen appearing the Michaelmas archangel.
The abbey of the Mont-Saint-Michel underwent with the wire of the centuries some rehandlings and this architectural unit is made up thus of a pre-Romance church, of abbey, Romance and Gothic buildings conventuels called « the Wonder ». Transformed into prison of the revolution to the Second Empire, the abbey was entrusted in 1874 to the service of the historic buildings. Since 1969, a monastic community ensures a permanent spiritual presence.
To also see: the Grévin Museum. Located at the foot of the Abbey, it revives construction, the monastic life and the history as a whole of the Mont-Saint-Michel.
